Measuring your curtain drop.
Curtains are usually best hung in one of the following ways:
- to the floor
- to a sill or
- to sit below the sill.
We think it looks best when curtains finish either:
- 1cm above the floor
- 15-20cm below the sill (or at least 2cm above a radiator)
- 1cm above the sill
Although we think the above look best, curtains can finish wherever you wish such as between the window and floor if preferred. If there is no carpet down and you are intending to fit one then it's best to measure to around 2-3cm up from the floor. Not all houses are level, we therefore recommend measuring from at least 3 separate positions on the track or pole as it's rare for sills and floors to be level. To avoid dragging at the bottom, it is best to use the shortest of these measurements.
The Snug tip - It's important not to allow curtains to drag at the bottom which is why we recommend a small gap from the flooring to avoid any fraying or damage to the bottom.
Pole heading
If you are using a curtain pole to hang your curtains then you need to ensure that you measure from the underside of the rings on the pole to the point where you want the curtains to finish at the bottom
The Snug tip - if you want the pole and rings to be covered by your curtains then start your measurements from the top of the rings instead of the underside.
Track heading
If you are using a curtain track to hang your curtains then you need to ensure that you measure from the top of the track to the point where you want the curtains to finish at the bottom
Eyelet Heading
Eyelet curtains are only able to hang from a curtain pole (and not a track). Our 40mm eyelet curtains will fit poles with a diameter of up to 35mm.
Measure from the top of your curtain pole to the point where you want the curtains to finish at the bottom. Your curtains will be made with an additional 3cm of fabric for the additional top of the curtains - we add this automatically so you do not need to include this in your calculation
